Dương Đình Nghệ was a village notable from Giàng Village that now belongs to Thiệu Dương Commune, Thiệu Hóa District, . In March 931, from the resistance base built in Giàng Village, Dương Đình Nghệ led his troop to make an attach on the Southern Han army, liberate Đại La Rampart, and seized autonomy for the country.

At Giàng Village Dương Đình Nghệ’s homeland, he built a resistance center of the country. He had tried to recruit talents and provided martial arts training day and night. He openly kept 3,000 “self-denying people”, hoarding food, weapons and preparing plans to attack .

    After getting the force ready, in March 931, from the resistance base in Giàng Village, Dương Đình Nghệ sent his troops to Giao Châu and make an attach on Đại La Rampart, capital of the invaders. The attack of our troops made the Southern Han army completely crushed. The resistance of our people under Dương Đình Nghệ’s leadership won complete victory. The power was handed over from the Khúc family to Dương Đình Nghệ. He kept on claiming to be the Governor and entrusted Ngô Quyền to manage Ái Prefecture and Đinh Công Trứ to be thứ sử (officials) of .

In April 937, Dương Đình Nghệ was killed by Kiều Công Tiễn, a general under Dương Đình Nghệ’s command. At that time, the country was facing the danger of invasion. In that context, Ngô Quyền made a continuation and development of Dương Đình Nghệ’s glorious career, which intensified the patriotic tradition of the people of .
