Lê Hoàn
was born on July 15th in Tân Sửu year – the year of the (941) in
,
Xuân Lập Commune, Thọ Xuân District, .
In 979, Đinh
Tiên Hoàng died; the throne was given to his son who was only 6 years old at
that time; and the Đinh Dynasty weakened. Taking advantage of this situation, the
Song Dynasty’s army repeatedly invaded our country.
In the
situation that the country had to cope with invasions, the King Đinh Toàn was
still small and therefore had not got enough prestige and intelligence to lead
the war of resistance, the Queen Dương Vân Nga granted the imperial robe to Lê
Hoàn in 980. He became king and began a new dynasty – Tiền Lê (Early Lê) Dynasty
with the first date Thiên Phúc.
Lê Hoàn led
the people to crush the Song army, after that built diplomatic relations with
neighboring countries.
In order
to build the country, he implemented policies to develop economy and culture
with special emphasis on the development of agricultural production. Ttraditional
crafts such as weaving, stone carving, bronze casting, and ceramics etc. quite
developed.
On March 8th
in Ất Tỵ year, the year of the Snake (1005), the Emperor Lê Hoàn deceased in , Hoa Lư Capital
City, lived to be 64, after 24 years on the throne. Lê Hoàn completed the
historical mission that was to restore and maintain the country’s independence
in the last decades of the 10th century and ushered in a period of
continuous development of the country from the period of Đại Cồ Việt to Đại Việt
in the following centuries.
