The first victory of the Vietnam’s people’s navy on august 5th, 1964 at border area in Thanh Hóa

Due to the
bankruptcy of the Special War strategy
in the South, the strengthened their forces and raided
the North.
At 1:30 pm on
August 2nd, 1964, the destroyers Maddox trespassed the
territorial waters between Hòn Mê and Lạch Trường.
At 12:30 am
on August 5th, 1964, the US mobilized bombers to bomb 64 times on
many important goals along the Northern coast: Lạch Trường (Thanh Hóa), Gianh
River (Quảng Bình), Vinh and Bến Thủy (Nghệ An), Hòn Gai Town (Quảng Ninh),
which started the large scale destruction war by air and naval in the North of
Việt Nam.
At 2:45 pm
of the same day, the
air striked from Hòn Nẹ Island (Hậu Lộc District) to Lạch Trường (Hoằng Hóa District).
Foreseeing the enemy’s dark intentions, the Vietnam’s People's Navy incorporated
with the Antiaircraft Company 19, the Post 74 of armed police, and people of
such communes as Ngư Lộc, Đa
Lộc, Minh Lộc, and Hoà Lộc (Hậu Lộc District), and Hoằng Trường (Hoằng Hoá
District) to resist fiercely.
At 3:15 pm, the battle at Lạch Trường ended.
Soldiers and the people in Lạch Trường shot down two aircraft and wounded two other
units.
