Confering Diplomas could appear in fifteenth century, Le dynasty, confirmed by King’s seal, bearing state’s confirmation and showing court power to villages. Together with the other historical records, such as : royal proclamations, royal decrees, inscriptions, family annals…confering diploma is considered as one type of legal offical documents of feudal states. According to reseachers, basically, confering diploma could be classified into two types :

The first type is used for conferring on meritorious officials. It could be seen as family treasure and being carefully kept in the families or ancestral temples.

The second type is used for conferring on Gods. It is considered as community’s property and being carefully kept in community houses, temples, shrines...

29 confering diplomas, both types mentioned above, are being kept in Thanh Hoa museum. Especially, all of them are about conferment on the meritorious official, Le tuong cong, Le Trung Truc as real name, Minh Dat as posthumous name, Doctor of Philosophy in the Ky Suu examination (1589). According to the content of these conferring diplomas, they dated back to Le Trung Hung and Nguyen dynasties. Following the researchers, all of these diplomas are about the conferment on Le Nhu Bat, Ph.D. Because of his significant merits, every year the Kings bestow more nice words.
