Object conservation is one of six main works of the and be an important work.

In the , the conservation of artifacts has only been done temporarily, which is usually done manually and not following a standard process of conservation.

In 2009, the built a project titled Collecting, conserving, and revising exhibit content as well as exhibit form of period 2010-2020.

Thanks to the timely concern of the Thanh Hóa Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s leadership, on September 20^th, 2010, the Chairman of Thanh Hóa Province’s People’s Committee signed the Decision No. 3322/QĐ-UBND to approve this project.

The is a local synthesis museum that does research, stores, and exhibited more than 30,000 artifacts of different materials: stone, metal, organic dating from prehistory – primary history to contemporary – modern history.

In order to put forward the best process of conserving object, firstly the staff of the Department of Inventory – Conservation need to collect statistical data, classify, photographed, and accurately assess the condition of each type of artifact. Later, they hand over those artifacts to the Co. Ltd. Technologies of Storage and Conservation Company to do the conservation. After being conserved, an object will be photographed and put in its inventory. Its condition before and/or after the conservation were recorded

In 2011 – 2012, the Museum has conserved 20,647 object units. After completing the project Preservation and repair museum objects, the Museum carried out another project to repair, improve, and make new exhibit cases and platforms; buy equipments for conservation work such as museum storage cabinets, moisture-proof cabinets, dehumidifiers, air conditioners etc.

Currently, objects at the have been therapeutically conserved and step by step preventively preserved. The environment and the system of cases, cabinets, and equipments partially meets the minimum requirements of the museum storage as well as the requirements proposed in the project.
