Given the fact that the country was in danger, on July 13^th, 1885, King Hàm Nghi announced Cần Vương Royal Proclamation to launch the Cần Vương movement against the French colonialism across the country.

In the gallery Patriotic and revolutionary tradition of Thanh Hóa in 1858 - 1945, collections of objects and images about Cần Vương movement are currently on display.

The most important object is the Cần Vương Royal Proclamation by King Hàm Nghi, which called upon patriotic feudal intellectuals to gather the people to rise up against the French colonial. There are also portraits of patriotic feudal intellectuals who were “leaders” of the Cần Vương movement such as: Tống Duy Tân, Trần Xuân Soạn, Cầm Bá Thước, Đinh Công Tráng. Also, there are archival photos of bases built to against the French colonial such as: Trịnh Vạn base in Thường Xuân, Điền Lư base in Bá Thước, Mã Cao base in Yên Định, Ba Đình base in Nga Sơn, Hùng Lĩnh base in Vĩnh Tân and Vĩnh Lộc etc.

At the communal house (đình) of (in Vĩnh Tân and Vĩnh Lộc), the Conference of the patriotic scholars took place. The scholars unanimously chose the area of Ba Đình in Nga Sơn to be the site to build strategic bases for the Ba Đình Uprising.

Through such documents as Diagram of happenings in Ba Đình fighting (1886 - 1887), The battle on moats and bastions between Ba Đình insurgent troops and the French colonials on January 20^th, 1887 or such objects as the Spade that the people used to dig the earth to build Ba Đình fortification, Rice in the food storage of Ba Đình insurgent troops that later was burned by the French colonials etc., visitors can visualize an overview of the happenings of Ba Đình uprising and understand Thanh Hóa’s people’s insurrection movement Ba Đình, tenacious fighting spirit of the people of Thanh Hóa in the Cần Vương movement against the French colonialism.
