In 2001, running the project “Collecting, conserving, correcting and editing the form and content of the exhibition in Thanh Hoa museum, 2010-2020 phase”, the museum did collect a lot of unique, valuable and rare artifacts, adding up to the exhibition and store, with different materials and types, such as, bronze drums, basket-shaped bronze containers, production tools, stone ornaments… This paper is about the big peach-shaped ink stone being kept in stone sub-store.

The ink slab is made of one stone block, dark green color. The whole body is 51cm in height. The widest is 95cm lengthways and 70cm breadthways. Viewing form the top, the ink stone looks like a peach cut lengthways and deeply carved, including 3 cavities, the largest cavity for containing ink, 33cm in depth, two other smaller cavities are arranged symmetrically through the stem for containing ink and grinding ink stick, 18cm in width, 10cm in depth. The stem has 4 leaves, two hang on it and others stick to two smaller cavities. The ink stone got a three-legged supporter and completely not decorated.

According to the researchers, this ink stone dates back to Nguyen dynasty, in form of stylized peach which is the symbol of permanence, study and examination in Nguyen dynasty in .

 This is the biggest ink stone found not only in Thanh Hoa but also in through history. It is a lively evidence, a valuable resource for studying about the sculpture arts in Nguyen dynasty in .
